Protuoso Biosciences raised a $9.5-million seed round on Wednesday led by Taya Venture and Darwin Ventures, with participation from NSG Ventures and SEEDS. The funding will be used to advance the development of MUXBODIES: fully recombinant fusion proteins designed to combine several protein modalities, such as antibodies, cytokines and peptides, into a single therapeutic capable of interacting with multiple biological mechanisms simultaneously.
Using its central protein engineering platform, Protuoso aims to generate a slew of therapeutic assets that are then individually advanced into subsidiaries, employing a "hub-and-spoke" model for parallel development. The company also leverages synthetic biology and computational technologies for protein design, as well as AI-enabled modular protein engineering for optimisation.
The startup has programmes underway in cardiometabolic diseases, including obesity, as well as solid tumour candidates that use next-generation "armour" technology to engage immune cells and overcome immune exhaustion and low durability challenges. Protuoso also plans to move into autoimmune diseases.
